3 Reasons To Replace Your Vinyl Windows This Fall

Nora Mcdonalid

The beautiful days of fall quickly become the cold days of winter, especially if you have older, drafty windows. But enduring the drafts can be a thing of the past. You can soon enough the warmth and comfort of your home. If you are in the market for vinyl windows, fall is the best time to replace them for numerous reasons. Here are a few of them.

1.  Tax Credits

President Biden signed the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 on August 16, 2022. In this act, the government extended current tax credits for certain energy-efficient products through the end of the year. To claim the tax credit on your 2022 tax bill, you must order and have your products installed before December 31, 2022. The credit is only available for the year you install your windows.

The tax credit could be worth approximately 30% of the cost of your windows up to $1200, although it does not cover the installation cost. Do your homework because only some vinyl windows qualify for the credit.

2.  Appointment Availability

Spring and summer can be hectic months for home improvement companies. Work usually slows down in the fall and winter months. By waiting until fall to schedule your vinyl window installation, you have a better chance of getting an appointment that coincides with your schedule.

Since the installation crews are spread less thin with fewer jobs, more people will be available to work on your home. The larger the team, the faster they can put in your windows.

3.  Energy Efficiency

Did you know that your windows are responsible for 25-30% of your home's heat gain or heat loss? Replacing old, outdated, inefficient windows can allow you to recoup this energy in your home.

Installing them during the fall months before the coldest months of the year can be a very cost-effective step. Not only will proper installation of your new windows keep you and your family warm and toasty, but you will see significant savings on your power bill.

Look for ENERGY STAR-certified windows with NFRC labels. These labels will allow you to compare the energy performance rating in numerous categories when comparing windows. Two of these categories are:

  • U-Factor - states how well the window keeps heat in your home.
  • Solar Heat Gain Coefficient - states how well the window keeps heat out of your home.

The lower numbers in both of these categories represent the best choices.
