3 Signs Your Roof Needs To Be Replaced

Nora Mcdonalid

Your roof provides you with protection, literally, over your head. This protection will only last for so long though before it has to be repaired or replaced. If your roof is in poor shape, it will not be able to handle the weather and other elements, and you could end up with an issue inside your home, such as a leak, or a cave-in. If your roof has issues, you should consult a professional roofer about your situation and what should be done—a repair or a replacement. Read on for some signs to watch out for that may indicate your roof needs to be replaced.

1. Your Roof Is Shiny All Over

If your roof is shiny all over, it may be an indication that your roof needs to be replaced. A shiny roof may happen because the asphalt granules have all worn away and all that is left are bare shingles. When this occurs, the roof isn't able to fully protect your roof and home the way that it should. You could be susceptible to leaks and other issues without those granules. If you are finding a lot of those granules around your house, or inside of your gutters, take a look at your roof and see if it appears shiny. If it does, discuss having your roof replaced.

2. Your Roof Is Sagging

If your roof has started sagging, it's a sign that your roof needs to be replaced. Your roof should not be sagging, and you should see straight lines when you look at it from the ground level. If you see that it appears to be dipping in at all, you should have it replaced. A sagging roof may be an issue with the wood sheeting below the shingles and may indicate a problem with moisture or other water damage.

3. Your Roof Appears To Be Wet

If your roof always appears to be wet, you should consult a professional roofer to discuss having your roof replaced. A wet roof may indicate a leak or a problem with moisture and is causing the shingles to stay wet. If your shingles look like they are wet, and other surrounding roofs are not wet at all, or it has been dry for a while and your roof still appears wet, have it replaced.

If your roof has any of these signs, discuss them with a professional roofing company and discuss your roofing options. Protect your home as much as possible, don't ignore these signs. Contact a local roofing service to learn more.

Luckily, there are plenty of people who think the pros outweigh the cons when it comes to roofing as a profession. Therefore, we all have roofers to work on our homes when needed.
